Why Reload Your Own Ammunition?

As society continues to decline, and those in government continue to bark about gun laws and restrictions, more gun owners are debating whether they should begin reloading their own ammunition. Whether it be to ensure they have plenty of ammo for those SHTF moments or just to bypass buying restrictions, the field of reloading has seen a boom in recent years. However, with the influx of interests comes an enormous number of beginners and, in turn, a lack of knowledgeable reloaders.

How do we, then, combat this growing trend and teach proper processes and techniques? While there’s a vast amount of information that can be found online, there’s nothing better than learning first hand from a veteran of the field. Many veteran reloaders are finding that their skills are not only beneficial to their own ammunition but can be used to teach newcomers. Some have even began actually teaching for profit, allowing what can be an expensive on taking to actually become profitable. If you’re one who is contemplating teaching your reloading skills for profit, we’ve gather a few pointers that will help keep you safe.

Get liability Insurance

We’ve all taught a few friends or family members through the years. We often don’t have to concern ourselves too much over their desire to seek legal action should something go wrong. However, if you are contemplating teaching others, it’s a wise choice to have some form of insurance that would protect you should a student encounter a dangerous situation. This should definitely be the case if you have an extremely litigious community.

Acquire excellent Teaching materials

These can either be developed on your own or found through a reputable company. In fact, the NRA has courses that allow you, as the instructor, to become an NRA certified reloading instructor. This would not only boost your reputation with the students but give you access to both materials and insurance at an affordable cost.

Don’t buy the best equipment available

There are many reasons why you won’t want to use the best equipment available, the first of which being the fact that beginners will be using it. Start out small and cheap, giving your students the basic knowledge that will allow them to purchase the equipment they want for their own shop.

Have every student sign a liability waiver the first day!

While this won’t absolve you from all liability should you find yourself in court, it will go a long way to a reasonable judge, showing you were upfront and honest about the potential dangers of reloading. If a student refuses to sign a waiver, they should not be allowed to take you course.

Keep the class sizes small

Teaching reloading skills to a beginner requires a ton of hands-on experience. While having more in the class will definitely boost your profit, it will also inhibit your ability to effectively teach the students. Start off small, hone your teaching skills, and give your students the best experience possible.

There is definitely a need for those who have been reloading for many years, and have developed skills that only experience can teach, to bestow that experience to this new generation of reloaders. While it is sure to be a rewarding experience, it is needful to protect yourself from the beginning, ensuring you can teach for many years to come.
